Sculpting Art Dolls

I've been trying my hand at sculpting in paper clay this week and am having a great time at it, although I'm sure I'm making lots of mistakes! I've only ever worked with polymer clay and paper clay, if you haven't tried it, is a little different. Still not sure how I like it, yet. It's a bit softer and lighter and doesn't seem as strong, perhaps because it is air dried rather than baked. Also, I have had some cracking happen in the drying process, so need to work that out yet.

There are two different styles of dolls I'm working on right now. This is one of them. Her name is, "Lucinda," and she likes to dye yarn in natural colours in her spare time. As a matter of fact, she sells her naturally dyed yarns in the local flea market ever Saturday during the Summer. (Oh, and it's not nice to spread rumours, so please keep this under your hat: Lucinda has a bit of a thyroid problem. Thus the bulging eyes.)

Miniature Doll-Sized Purses

My handmade miniature doll-sized purses are now available in the shop. Three are handstitched from leather and one is made from cotton.

Vintage Rubber Dolls

Got these vintage rubber dollies for a dollhouse the other day. They're a little dirty so need some cleaning up, but I love them just the same.

Been messing around in my art journal again. Also, we were at Mom's this weekend and I made 3 dolls. I don't have the photos uploaded yet, so for now you can see one of them as a WIP, from an iPhone pic. Her name is "Ugly Betty."

Vintage Paint by Number Paintings

So, over the last little while I've been collecting some paint by numbers and putting them in the shop. Now, I am nearly regretting that I've sold them all because they are really starting to grow on me. They are so charming and quaint. I love the look of a bunch of them all hung together on a wall. Yesterday I found this moose paint by number painting (below) and I cannot guarantee that I am going to part with it, nor any others that I happen to come across!
I am kicking myself now because yesterday, while thrifting, one of the shops that I found 2 horse paint by numbers at had no way of paying except cash. I usually use my ATM card, but their machine broke down with the customer in front of me and so they couldn't accept anything other than cash. So... I left the 2 horses behind. I am tempted to go back and see if they are still there though!

Mini Leather Blythe Purses

These little purses are just right for Blythe or other dolls of that size. I made them from leather and handsewing on this material is very tough - now my fingers are so sore!

This is the iPhone pouch I was making from my previous post. It's finished now too. I am now dreaming up some other styles for the purses so when my fingers heal I'll be back at it! :)

Eireann's New Dress

This is the dress/jumper I made for Eireann a few weeks ago. It's a bit big, as she is two and it is a size 4. I left the sleeves off the pattern and made it sleeveless instead. The fabric is kind of a linen type. The laces are all vintage that I've picked up at church bazaars over the last little while. This pattern was really easy. I may make her another one in a small print for the summer as well.

Leather Working

Yep, I do jump around from project to project. Yesterday, I experimented with making a case out of leather. Now it's done, but my fingers are so sore. Next time I may try it on my sewing machine instead! I will have to take pics of the finished piece yet...

Giddy-Up

These little horses are from the dollar store. I was hoping they would fit into the match boxes so they could be turned into shadow boxes, but they were too big. No worries, the kiddies like them.

Art Journal

I've been playing in my art journal this weekend. Wayyyy too much fun. (My 5 yr old son also has an art journal started too. I will have to take pics of his pages as well.)

Crafty Update

Been working on lots of little things lately. Hoping to get more done on the 39 square sampler soon and begin more work in an art journal. I keep getting side tracked with so many interesting projects! Hope you're having a great weekend!

Rocky Road Cupcakes

I don't know why they call these "muffins" in the recipe, as they are definitely sweet enough to be cupcakes. I added frosting to them to make sure there was no doubt, LOL! Here is where I found the recipe.

Engraved Necklace Pendants

I've added some new items to the shop. They are hand engraved necklace pendants made from polymer clay. All with a nature theme. Some photos are shown below and you can see them all here.
